How & Where to buy kigurumi online. (Comments always answered!)
13th-Sep-2007 04:46 pm [help, links, stores]
MINE. >.>

Allo! I'm Noxin, and I've been interested in kigurumi for a long time, and as such, have gathered a great many resources on where to find them. [[It's currently under (re)construction, but it'll be done by the end of September. In the meantime, I've linked to the Gaian version, whose revamping has been completed. ]]

It seems that every seven or eight posts, there's somebody asking where they can find them, how to buy them, how much they cost, etc.  I have decided to try and help these poor, community clogging misguided  souls. I have here a rather comprehensive list of where to buy kigurumi if you don't have close contacts in Japan to ask favors from. ;P

 So here you are: How/ Where to Buy Kigurumi.

There are quite a few ways and places to purchase kigurumi: Check out this page in Gaia for the full list of stores, where they ship, what language they're in, and even information on chopping services (so you can buy from any stores that don't ship internationally. :]

(Sorry for the 'copout'-- until I get the new version of this guide up, I'll link to the completed version on Gaia.)

And finally- two other extremely helpful posts on LJ. :)
Uno ((Which has some translation pointers for ya: the characters for 'adult' & 'child' as well as the characters for 'fleece' and 'cotton'. Also, has a little info about shopping services.))
Dos ((A quick explanation of Y!Japan auctions and had a few links to search results pertaining to kigurumi.))

And similar to above, here is a link to a page dedicated to the section's header. This section is, obviously, here if you're trying to make your own kigurumi.  So check out the link above to see the page in the Gaian kigurumi guild with all the compiled info + links I've found that are relevant to making your own kigurumi. :]

(Sorry for the 'copout'-- until I get the new version of this guide up, I'll link to the completed version on Gaia.)

Good luck, and I hope I've managed to answer some questions in this post.  I'll try and answer any additional questions as best I can. :D  (how sad is it that this was my first post to the comm.? XD )

Sorry to be a bother, but do you know if the Mayfair mob post overseas? Rakuten is so confusing.
14th-Sep-2007 03:47 am (UTC)
ahaha. No I'm not sure. ^ ^; Probably not. But what I DO know is that the courier services will do it for you. ;)

I'll check again, but it's not likely they do. D:

May I ask where you got your Pikachu kigurumi? I realllyyyyyy need one for Halloween because my boyfriend is going to be a Rocket Grunt. xD

Thank you. T____________T
14th-Sep-2007 04:05 pm (UTC)
Surreeee. I got mine from here using Celga . HOWEVER, that website only has ones made with fleece (the heavier, warmer of the two cloth options).

So if your Halloweens are warm then you may wanna' try a different kigurumi where cotton's available. :)
16th-Sep-2007 08:41 am (UTC) - Hi, This is boyun. Thank you so much~
Hi! I am very pleasded that my name, Boyun is mentioned that on the post with very positiv feedback. It seems that your friend would bought kigurumis from me. However, unfortuately I can not guess who she is. If yuo can, please let me know. I would like to tell her "thank you so much".

Also, there are a lot of information which I did not know. Thank you for the post very much!

How long did it take to get ship to you?
20th-Sep-2007 02:11 am (UTC)
Well from the day I ASKED them to ship it, it took 5 days. (I live on the east coast in the USA)

Howeevverr the TOTAL amount of time it took (as in me sending them the request to buy the kigurumi, them sending me the invoice, me paying it, and waiting for the item to ship to THEM in Japan before weighing it- so that they could charge me for the shipping.) was about two weeks. ^ ^;
20th-Sep-2007 07:14 am (UTC)
This was VERY helpful. Thank you so much for the information. May I ask how much your total was for the pikachu kigurumi? Like $80?
20th-Sep-2007 12:12 pm (UTC)
More like $85, actually...:)
21st-Sep-2007 12:14 am (UTC)
I have a question. Have you were seen a bear, teddy bear kigurumi?
21st-Sep-2007 12:40 am (UTC)
I've seen a teddy bear kigurumi that was homemade, but never on any of the mentioned sites above. :(

Sorry... I guess you could commission someone to make one for you.

When I look around yahoo auctions and stuff I can find many Brown Hamsters, but no Pink Hamsters. I know they have them on rakuten, But Do you know of any other places that have them?
8th-Oct-2007 08:29 pm (UTC)
I can't help you sorry.. : ( But good luck!
(Tbh - I;m not being rude and I'm really sorry if it sounds like I am!!!- but youn probably won't get much of a response in this thread, because its old! ^_^ People have a habit of ignoring teh older posts)
13th-Oct-2007 03:36 am (UTC) - Hi!
I'm new to ordering using Celga. I still don't know how much it'll cost and if I don't have a # my parents will be like :S lol Since I'm planing to order fleece, how much was it to ship from Japan to you using EMS, and how much was it to ship from the store to Celga? I also live on the East Coast ^^ O and does that mean that Celga got the kigurumi in less than 9 days? o.o lol That is some pretty quick shipping overall. Ne, do you think I can get it in time for Halloween? :3
13th-Oct-2007 12:15 pm (UTC) - Re: Hi!
allo! Just commenting right now to let you know that I didn't miss your question... rightnow I'm going back through all of my emails to and from Celga... as for 9 days shipping?... I doubt that that'll happen. ^ ^;

when I said they shipped it in four days, that was fter I waited for about a week until THEY got it... but like I said- I have to go back in my emails..soo... I'll comment again once I know. :)

How heavy is a fleece kigurumi??
14th-Oct-2007 02:12 am (UTC)
Preettyy heavy, actually. ^ ^; I use it in place of a fleece blanket. XP It's too heavy to wear in weather above room temperature (65 F/ 20 C) but is purrrfect for wintery outings. (snowboarding, etc.) I'd say it's almost as warm as a fleece blanket, but it feels much thinner.

Overall- it's not too heavy, really. Sort of like a spring jacket, in terms of weight. ^ ^

Hope I helped! D: ^ ^;;
7th-Nov-2007 12:16 pm (UTC) - :'D
Thanks, but are there bigger sizes?
Like, this seller of kugurumi said it fits all, but the height is to be of concern. D:
I'm 5'7, and her products fits from 4'10-5'10, but the pictuces I've seen are pictures of people who look all short and kawaii, and if I tried a kugurumi on, I wouldn't look as cute and kawaii. xD
So, is their a seller that sells for taller people? D:
'Cause I want mine to hang loose a bot more. D:
8th-Nov-2007 03:39 am (UTC) - Re: :'D
Hm... not that I know of... Sorry! For a minute, I thought that I rmembered hearing about longer ones.. but I'm quite sure that that was just a post on how to make one... ANYWAY- I think kigurumi actually look cuter on taller people. ^ ^;

I'm 5'1 and think that my kigu's kind've ridiculously big on me. :P I WISH the 'feet' could come up higher than my ankles when hanging. XD XD I'm sure you'll look awesome ina kigurumi. C:

What do you think is the easiest method for an American to use?
3rd-Apr-2008 12:14 am (UTC)
I'd say to use Capsule Tokyo or the vendor on Soompi. Neither of them require courier/ shopping services, and no translation. However, on Soompi, you have to PM the seller to see exactly how much of what kind of kigurumi she has.

Also, Capsule Tokyo only has a few (six or seven?...maybe more) types of kigu, so you'd wanna' go see if you want any of them. :3

P.S. I am SOOO sorry for the LATE reply. TT-TT My email didn't notify of your comment for whatever reason. >.o

I'll be emailing this reply to you/ commenting your journal with it. <3

Personally, I ordered from Marron-Kuriya on the Japanese auction site, Rakuten.

Aanndd as for which fabric to buy, there are several questions I have:

1.) Do you plan on wearing your kigurumi outside a lot? and if so, what kind of climate do you live in/ what time of year are you going to wear it out.

If you're going to be wearing it inside mostly, and you have a cooler house, I'd most definitely get the fleece. It's SO comfy and warm. <3

If, however, you're planning on wearing it out a lot when it's a but warmer, I'd buy the cotton kigu, because the fleece can easily become too warm when out in warm weather.

Also for summer, cotton IS better, provided you're summers aren't cold. :P

Hm- I don't really KNOW what a cotton kigurumi feels like, as I only have ONE kigurumi (my fleece pikachu). BUT, I can tell you that I don't think one material looks better than another.

Truth be told, the fleece ones have a nice 'sheen' to them, because of fleece's longer, smoother fibers. :3
